The Academix platform

The platform has been in active development since 2022. New features and fixes are released continuously and reach every institution automatically, with no downloads or upgrade projects.

Changes are tested in a separate staging environment before they are released to production.

The platform runs on managed cloud infrastructure. Institution records are held in a managed database service. Course files and lecture video are kept in cloud object storage, with a copy held by a second storage provider.

Web apps, files and video are delivered through a global content delivery network with DDoS protection.

All connections to the platform are encrypted with TLS, using TLS 1.3 for the platform API, and connections between the application and its database are encrypted.

Stored data is encrypted at rest by our infrastructure and storage providers.

Owners, staff, teachers, students and parents each sign in to their own area, and each signed-in request is checked against an active session.

Institutions define staff roles with view, add, edit and delete permissions for each part of the institute panel, and assign staff to the branches they work in. Parent accounts are read-only. Sign-in and other sensitive actions are rate limited.

Recorded lectures are processed into adaptive streams and delivered in encrypted segments. Playback keys are issued only to signed-in students enrolled in the course and to the institution's own staff.

Lectures saved for offline viewing in the Android app stay encrypted on the device and are removed when the student signs out.

Certificates, homework attachments, notices and payment receipts open only through signed, time-limited links.

The database is backed up automatically every day, with seven-day point-in-time recovery from the database provider. Course files and lecture video are kept with two storage providers.

Each institution has its own users, records and branded space: its logo and colour theme, its own wording for students and teachers in the institute panel, and its website and course storefront on its own name.theacademix.com address. After a student signs in, the mobile app shows the institution's name and logo.

Students, teachers and owners use The Academix app on Android and iOS, and every role has a web app. Parents use a web portal.

If a student's connection drops during a test on the web app, answers are kept on the device and sent when the connection returns.

Teachers can upload a question paper as a PDF or an image and have the questions extracted with AI. Every extracted question is reviewed by a teacher before it is saved to the question bank.
